Join Team FirstSteps at California State University Channel Islands and celebrate World Autism Awareness Day for their 6th annual Light It Up Blue 2017 event on Tuesday, April 4th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
Cal State Channel Islands' Disability Resource Programs (DRP) hosts its global autism awareness event with a community resource fair from 6:00 - 7:00 pm and will feature lawn games, autism advocacy speeches, and a closing lighting ceremony until 8:00 pm.
Free parking is available to the first 100 community guests who RSVP at go.csuci.edu/liub2017.

FirstSteps for Kids Director of Research and Regional Clinic Director, Jonathan Tarbox, PhD, BCBA-D, is presenting at a two-day workshop on September 21st and 22nd, in Bodo, Norway. The conference is for parents and professionals working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders and is being hosted by the Tromso Child Habilitation Network.
Dr. Tarbox is presenting on FirstSteps research and treatment procedures for establishing executive function skills, including memory, self-control, attention, planning, and problem-solving skills, in children with autism.

FirstSteps for Kids Research Director and Regional Clinic Director, Jonathan Tarbox, PhD, BCBA-D, is giving an invited address on FirstSteps research to a sold-out audience at the Washington Association for Behavior Analysis conference this Friday, August 12th, in Bellevue, Washington.
The title of Dr. Tarbox’s presentation is "Moving Beyond the Foundational Verbal Operants: Research on Complex Skills in Children with Autism.” The presentation describes the FirstSteps approach to doing research on complex skill acquisition and will showcase the latest results of ongoing projects, such as a program for teaching problem-solving skills to children with autism.

This weekend, FirstSteps for Kids Regional Clinic Director and Director of Research, Jonathan Tarbox, PhD., BCBA-D, is attending the annual World Conference of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science, in Seattle, Washington.
Dr. Tarbox will present results from an ongoing project on teaching children with autism problem-solving skills. The project, done in collaboration with fellow FirstSteppers Lisa Stoddard, MS, BCBA, Ashely Colis, MA, BCBA, Erica Christin, MA, BCBA, and Amanda Murry, involves teaching children with ASD the critical executive function skills involved in identifying problems, generating potential solutions, and then choosing, executing, and self-monitoring solutions. Initial results are encouraging, with children demonstrating new levels of flexibility, creativity, and independence.

Dr. Jonathan Tarbox, Director of Research and Regional Clinic Director at FirstSteps for Kids, is giving invited presentations at the Arizona Autism United Transdisciplinary Autism Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, April 29th.
Dr. Tarbox’s presentation, “Complex Skill Acquisition for Children with Autism,” will review recent research as well as present data from ongoing FirstSteps research projects on teaching complex executive function and perspective taking skills to children with autism. The presentation will review procedures for teaching a wide variety of skills, including attention, working memory, self-management, inhibition, and problem-solving.
Dr. Tarbox’s presentation, "How to Get Your Picky Eater to Love Eating a Healthy Variety of Foods,” provides real life strategies for parents to address picky eating in their children.
